Jos Mojet; ESN Industrial Advisor

Jos started her university studies in 1980 at the age of thirty-seven after all of her children left primary school and after a long volunteer career in social work. She studied social psychology and psychophysiology at Utrecht University and soon became a research assistant in the chemical senses group of the experimental psychology department, where she participated in fundamental research on olfaction and built up and ran the extensive sensory evaluation work carried out for many of the major Dutch food and drink industries.

After finishing her studies, she continued at the university, before she joined Unilever in 1989 to renew the approach and to develop new applied methods at the sensory department in their Vlaardingen facilities. In 1996 she moved to TNO Food and Nutrition, the Organisation for Applied Scientific Research in the Netherlands, where she, together with colleagues in the field, developed a number of new methods for the study of hedonic evaluation and food memory measurement, based on psychological insights in the roles of expectation, memory, emotion and situational influences in food related behaviour.

In 2001 she accepted an invitation to lead the sensory group at the Food and Biobased Research Institute, a contract research organisation at Wageningen University and Research Centre, where she continued with the development of sensory methods for applied and fundamental research, installed a three-years-research plan for the Consumer Insight group, initiated the building of the Restaurant of the Future, a unique facility for the observation of eating and drinking behaviour, and where she still is a consultant after her late retirement. She frequently participated in ESN activities since 1990, participated in quite a number of EC-projects, reviewed manuscripts for several scientific journals, participated in a number of scientific committees, and organised in 2006 the second Eurosense Sensory Consumer Science Symposium “Sense of Diversity”  in The Hague. She wrote over thirty papers in scientific journals and co-authored two book chapters, one on theories of food choice development and one on the boredom theory. Since January 2011 she has her own consultancy firm.
