ainia centro tecnológico is a non-profit private association formed by companies in the food manufacturing industry and related sectors. It was created in 1987 by the aforementioned companies in conjunction with the Institute for Small and Medium Industry of Valencia (IMPIVA) which belongs to the Department of Industry of the Regional Government of Valencia. At present, ainia has more than 1,000 associated companies. The head office is located in Valencia, with regional offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Vigo and Alicante. ainia has approximately 130 employees; the majority hold a university degree.

The purpose of the centre is to strengthen the competitiveness of the companies and to promote technological research and development in the food sector.

In the field of consumer and sensory evaluation, ainia's main expertise is based on QDA product profiling by trained panels, and hedonic testing by consumers (acceptability and preference tests in the laboratory, in central locations, and in the home environment). Most of the research and consultation focus on quality control, product development and marketing. ainia also participates in several EU-funded projects focusing on consumer preferences and sensory analysis of foods.

ainia also provides technical assistance in sensory analysis and consumer research and specific training designed to help companies in the formation of their own qualified panels.

ainia is accredited according to Standard ISO 17025 for sensory methods by the national regulatory board (ENAC).
